Furboten: The Legacy of Fur Special Exhibit

Fur has played a significant role in history, from being a symbol of status for royalty to driving the North American fur trade. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, fur garments became popular fashion items, often passed down through generations. The fur trade had profound effects across North America, including in Colorado, where the Cache la Poudre River was named by French trappers.

The special exhibit, Furboten: The Legacy of Fur explores these topics through pieces selected from Poudre Landmarks’ extensive fur collection spanning decades. Furboten: The Legacy of Fur is included with general admission to The Avery House through December 2024.
