Have you ever wondered just how the Edwardian woman achieved her elegant, sweeping style? Allow Ms. Sarah Heartburn, personal friend to Alice Roosevelt and style maven visiting from 1905, to enlighten you. Discover the secrets of fashion and function —from the outside in— at her program, What’s Under this Dress?: Revealing the Secrets of Edwardian Undergarments.

Ms. Heartburn will instruct the curious on the appropriate undergarments for a lady to achieve the coveted “Gibson Girl” silhouette. The lovingly restored Avery House hosts two sittings of what is sure to be a cheeky and enlightening performance. Ms. Heartburn will also have modern reproductions of the garments discussed on hand for those with a more tactile learning style.

Our generous lecture series sponsor, Satin Camisole, will bring the audience back to 2019 with drawings for a gift card to assist in purchasing contemporary wear.
